Senior Manager of AI Engineering
Blythe Towal is a Senior Manager of AI Engineering at Shield AI. She leads the Scene Understanding team, which develops and deploys algorithms to add contextual awareness for the user and the robot so they can make informed decisions about their future actions. Before joining Shield AI, Blythe led a path perception team for the Autonomous Vehicle project at Nvidia, where she developed machine learning models to predict where the car should drive in complex scenes, and worked on deep learning algorithms with Qualcomm Research, where she won second place in the ImageNet competitions and helped to develop deep learning and neuromorphic hardware. Blythe holds degrees in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology (BS) and Northwestern University (MS and PhD) and has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the California Institute of Technology. In 2012, Blythe was recognized on the Forbes 30 under 30 list in science and healthcare for her graduate and postdoctoral work in bio-inspired engineering of active sensing systems.
